European Customs Data Entry Clerk - Salary £28,000 - £33,000

Job description: McLanachan Transport Limited is a family-owned company providing a range of collection and delivery services throughout mainland UK and Europe.

We currently have a vacancy for a European Customs data entry clerk based in our Uddingston office. This is a permanent, full-time role.

Job purpose:

Working as a European Customs data entry clerk involves the preparation of Customs documentation so that commodities can enter or exit one country to another whilst ensuring all legal requirements are met in accordance with HMRC regulations.

Main duties of the role:

  • Recognise client commercial invoice(s) and packing list(s), extracting data as necessary
  • Liaising with exporters and internal operational colleagues to obtain mandatory information for export entries
  • Entering details onto specialised Customs
  • Be fully conversant with export and import Customs agents
  • Inform customers on export restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements and all other Customs related matters
  • Ensuring the timely supply of necessary export documentation, including T-documents, EUR1’s, Certificates of Origin (CofO), CVED and other cargo control documents, as well as discharge process of T-documents etc
  • Liaise with Port Health or Customs officials in areas such as document checks, goods quarantine etc.
  • Any duties/tasks as requested by your Line Manager or a Director.

Experience / Skills required:

  • Demonstrate experience within an operational Customs environment, managing International Logistics Customs documentation for at least 1 year
  • Numerical skills essential, with excellent data handling and developing others in this area
  • High level of accuracy. Skilled negotiator, communicator and relationship manager when dealing will all parties involved
  • Customer-focused, both internally and externally
  • Complex problem solving and the ability to engage critical thinking skills will be required as well as the ability to actively listen and interpret concisely
  • Although you will work as part of a team, you need to be self-motivating and be able to organise your work effectively and maintain records
  • Ability to operate windows-based applications and any other software that is standard within the industry
  • Work in a fast-paced environment ensuring clearance processes are completed in a compliant and timely manner

The successful candidate will also develop into our Transport Planning team with additional training provided.

 Transport Planner - Salary - NEGOTIABLE on experience

Job Description: Our customers have grown to trust McLanachan Transport to deliver on time throughout the UK and Europe. As a direct result of our high customer satisfaction, we are going through a period of growth and need to increase the number of planners within our team.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

This role involves coordinating vehicles and loads to ensure that customers meet time deadlines and bookings run to schedule.

Main Responsibilities

  • To schedule and plan routes ensuring optimisation and effective use of all company vehicles
  • To ensure company compliance with all transport policies, legislation, and procedures
  • To be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of drivers
  • To ensure the smooth operation of the Transport Office, compiling and maintaining documentation and managing information
  • To be responsible for ensuring drivers operate safely and legally and comply with WTD and Driver Hours legislation
  • To answer queries and enquiries from both external customers and internal communications 

Your Experience

  • Previous experience in traffic planning – at least two years
  • Be able to meet customers KPI's
  • Good Customer Service Skills
  • Be familiar with transport planning software
  • Good communication skills, both written & oral
  • IT Literate
  • Follow procedures as directed by customers and management
  • A driving license is essential
