Main purposes of position
The Transport Manager is integral to the day-to-day operations of McLanachan Transport, providing not only the practical operational backbone to the company but also the critical link between the various elements that ensure compliance with legislation.
McLanachan Transport has been providing structured logistics services throughout the UK and Europe for over 35 years. The Transport Manager will be responsible for a fleet of approximately 30 tractor units plus trailers, based at our main depot in Uddingston, close to Central Scotland Motorway networks. We have built up a solid reputation for reliability and flexibility among our varied clients and sectors we support, with this role, playing a crucial part in maintaining and developing these relationships.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate should have a Transport Manager CPC and also an HGV licence, but a candidate demonstrating a proven track record in a previous transportation logistics role should apply. To succeed in this position, you will have good personal judgement coupled with a strong sense of social and legal responsibility.
Core job role
The Transport Manager will ensure the maintenance of the company's vehicles, including the inspection of vehicles at the appropriate time together with action to remedy defects found. Ensure all safety inspection records are received and checked before the vehicle is returned to service.
On a daily basis, you will:
- Ensure that driver's complete their daily walk round check and promptly report and record all vehicle defects. Ensure all NIL defect reports are completed and filed.
- Be responsible for ensuring all maintenance records are compiled, are accurate and are stored as legally required.
- Ensure that drivers and vehicle Tachograph cards are downloaded, and all data analysed as per company guidelines.
- Deal with any driver infringements that occur, by discussing the report to ensure the driver fully understands the contraventions, and work to assist them to avoid further incidents.
Key objectives
Transport Manager will be responsible for ensuring:
- The proper instruction of all drivers
- Organising all driver work schedules are met
- Making regular checks to ensure compliance
- No driver is incentivised to encourage infringements
- Drivers are trained to avoid vehicle overloading
- Vehicles authorised on the Operators' Licence are kept at the operating centre when not in use
Other responsibilities
- Overseeing the company's Health and Safety compliance and policies
- Ensuring all drivers have the required documents to work
- Responsible for fuel analysis
- Recruitment of drivers and other related roles

The Transport Manager Support Assistant role is to help the Transport Manager in the essential day-to-day operations of McLanachan Transport. You will assist in providing support across all aspects of transportation logistics and legislation compliance.

Your position will support the efficient running of a fleet of approximately 30 tractor units plus trailers, based at our main depot in Uddingston, close to Central Scotland Motorway networks.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate should have transport logistics experience and also an HGV licence, but a candidate demonstrating relevant experience in any sector should apply. To succeed in this position, you will have the ability to understand critical directions, coupled with initiative and good organisational skills.
Core job role
Reporting directly to the Transport Manager, the Transport Support Assistant will help ensure the maintenance of the company's vehicles, including the inspection of vehicles at the appropriate time together with action to remedy defects found. Ensure all safety inspection records are received and checked before the vehicle is returned to service.
On a daily basis, you will support and assist in ensuring:
- All driver's complete their daily walk round check and promptly report and record all vehicle defects
- All NIL defect reports are completed and filed
- All maintenance records are compiled, are accurate and are stored as legally required
- Drivers and vehicle Tachograph cards are downloaded, and all data analysed as per company guidelines
and
- Any other tasks deemed necessary by the Transport Manager to assist them in carrying out their role successfully.

Transport Manager Support Assistant will help ensure:
- All driver work schedules are met
- Regular checks are made to ensure compliance
- Vehicles authorised on the Operators' Licence are kept at the operating centre when not in use.
- Company's Health and Safety compliance and policies
- Drivers documents to work
- Any additional tasks required by the Transport Manager and Senior Staff.
